Vintage Glass Bird Necklace

$215.00
Sold Out

A stunning pressed-glass cabochon made in post-war Japan during the Occupation, this one is unlike any other I’ve found. Tucked in among all those beautiful flowers is a single little bird, seemingly poised to delicately nibble on a cluster of berries.

I set it simply in sterling silver, letting the glass—and all of that wonderful detail—take center stage.

These little cabochons also have a quietly fascinating history. Many were made in homes rather than factories, often by rice farmers, and exported to America as part of the effort to help rebuild Japan’s economy after World War II.

So while I love this piece simply because it’s beautiful, I also love knowing that it carries a little bit of history with it. There’s something pretty special about wearing a piece that has already had a life before it found its way to my studio.

Materials: sterling silver, pressed glass

Length: 18 inches. I am happy to alter the chain length at no extra charge. Simply send me your preferred length after checkout and allow me one day to make the change before shipping.

Made by hand in my Illinois studio.
